On board the Steam Ship New York Annapolis Md Feb 3rd 1865 Dear Wife I Sit down this morning to write you a few lines to let you Know that I am as well as usual and hope this may find you well: We came down from Baltimore to this place day before yesterday and last night we came on board this steamer We will leave this place for Shermans Army this Evening or tomorrow the weather is pretty cold to day and there is considerable Ice in the Bay and the wind off the Salt water feels disagreeable though we have a warm place in the ship to stay so we can keep comfortable this is a great place for Oysters and those that are fond of such fruit have been improving their Oppertunity We have heard nothing of impor tance in refferance to the peace question Since I wrote last I have but little faith in it at present but I think the Rebs will be compelled to come to a Settlement before many months I Shall not write but little to day [crossed out word] but I will write more when we get through I am getting verry Anxious to hear from you and hope we[crossed out] [ll] will get where we can get some mail before long I will close for the presen please to write Soon I Remain as Ever Yours T J Davis L M Davis
