Davis writes Lucinda informing her that he is in good health and that they are now near New Bern, North Carolina. He details that they left Annapolis on the 6th and arrived at Beaufront, North Carolina on the 9th. Davis writes that while in Beaufront their boat was stuck at sea for 24 hours due to a storm and that many of the men were sea sick. He continues by noting that rather than continuing on to Savannah as originally planned, they were ordered to take the railroad to New Bern where they will supposedly meet up with some of General Sherman's troops and make a raid on the interior of North Carolina. Davis concludes by noting that they have received neither news of peace nor mail.
