Sunday March 5th 1865 Dear Wife Well Lucinda as this Is Sunday and my day to write; I will Endeavor to write you a few lines to inform you that I am as well as usual. and I truly hope this may find you in good health and Spirits: We left NewBerne yesterday morn ing at 9 o'clock and marched out to Bachelors Creek and this morning we marched to this place: This place is 18 miles west of New Berne and on the R.R. from New Berne to Goldsboro and Raleigh: the 23d (Schofields) Corps is with and we are now Repairing the RailRoad to Goldsboro which is 45 miles from here and we will probably meet Sherman at that place. There is but a few Rebels in our immediate front and they fall back as we advance We have had considerable rain the pas week and it is still cloudy to day and the air is cool: We have not rec'd any mail yet but I think we will Surely get mail before many days; at least I hope so for I have not been so anxious to hear from you since I been in the service: I have written to you every week since I have been here. and I should probably have written Oftener If I could got letters from you I have no news of importance to write to day So you must be content with a Short letter and I will write you a longer one when I get one from you So Good bye for this time.
