Davis writes to Lucinda noting that he is very happy to hear from her. He details that their troops came upon the Rebels on the 7th and commenced a four day fight on the 8th. Davis writes that the Rebels retreated on the 11th after determining the Union forces were too strong and that while the Union lost some prisoners, they captured others. He further details that no men in his Regiment were killed or wounded, however two were captured. Davis writes that Byron Johnson died at the hospital in New Bern from Typhoid Fever and that Robert McMichael has received no letters from home. Davis concludes by acknowledging that Lucinda is ready to depart from her visit with Susan and Harriet in Michigan, therefore Davis suggests that she make the trip back to Wisconsin.
