Davis writes to Lucinda noting that he is in good health. He details that they are now in Kinston and that the Rebels have left and are now moving toward Raleigh in order to scout General Sherman and his men. Davis writes that they will follow the Rebels as they continue to repair the railroad, although he notes that the Rebels likely destroyed sections of the railroad between here and Goldsboro. Davis notes that in the fight that occurred here the Rebels suffered massive loss, although captured a great number of prisoners. He concludes by detailing that he is experiencing difficulty with a mild case of Rheumatism.
