Army Corps Kinston March 29th 1865 Dear Wife I Sit down this Evening to write you a Short letter in answer to one I rec'd a few minute ago dated March 19th I am verry glad to hear from you and to hear that you are well I left the Hospital at Kinston yesterday I came up on the cars and Joined the Regt last night I am getting pretty well over the Rheumatism again. I Rec'd five letters from you last night; they were all written in Feb in one of your letters written at Marshall you said you was getting better of the Mumps; that was the first that I heard you had them but I Supose you have got well of them now: you Still write that you are tired of Michigan I wrote you a letter about the 13th of this month and told you that I thought it would be best for you to go back to Wis and do the best you could there I Supose you have Rec'd the letter before this time; I Recd a letter from Lewis Smith dated the 5 of Feb also one from Bro Will Davis dated 3rd of Feb and one from D Ingersoll dated Feb 8th so you see I got consideratble Feb mail: I also got Several letters that were written before I Started home. We are now back in our old Div with Sherman and I [crossed out] [Supose] am going back into the Pioneer Corps I went over to See the P.C. boys last night and they had a great deal to tell me about their Journey and doings the past Winter especially that portion of it in South Carolina I Supose that while the boys were in South Carolina they turned themselves loose in the Destruction of every Kind of property in that hot bed of Treason March 30th I will finish my letter this morning before the mail goes out: It is rain ing and has the appearance of a wet Spell: the whole army is lying here around Goldsboro and we will prob ably Stay here Sometime; to rest the army and draw clothing and perhaps pay; You say you dont like to stay among so many Copperheads; if I was in your place I would not talk with them on politics at all nor pay any attention to them on that subject It is raining through my tent so it wets my paper So I will have to close writing Excuse a short letter Write Often I Remain Ever Yours Direct: Pionerr Corps 3rd Div 15th A.C.
