Camp Near Richmond Virginia May 12th /65 Dear Wife I will write you a few lines this evening to inform you that I am as well as usual and hope this may find you well We left Petersburg on [crossed out] [monday] Tuesday morning and arrived here on Wednesday: We will pass through Richmond tomorrow morning for Washington. the distance from here to Washington is about one hundred miles and it will take us five or six days to so through : the boys are generally in good health and Spirts though they do not Seem to be in So mutch of a hurry in getting home as one would Supose I will only write a few lines to day to let you Know where I am: and I will write a [illegible] letter when I get through to Washington I have not Rec'd any letter from you yet though we have Rec'd mail since we came here but I hope I will get Some letters from you soon We had quite a heavy rain Storm last night and the air is quite cool to day in consequence The 14th & 20th Army Corps passed through Richmond yesterday and the 17th [illegible] is going through to day and the 15th will follow in the morning Well I bid you good Bye for this time [crossed out] [I] hoping I [crossed out] [I] will hear from you soon I have not heard yet whether you have got back to Wis or not but I Supose you have I Remain as ever Your Truly Direct to Washington D.c.
