Davis writes Lucinda noting that they left Washington on the 3rd by way of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He details that they traveled through Harpers Ferry, Virginia, as well as Cumberland City, Maryland, and arrived in Parkersburg, West Virginia on the 5th. He further notes that they rode steamboats from Parkersburg to Louisville, Kentucky, where they arrived on the 8th. Davis writes of his surprise in regards to the hearty welcome they received from civilians in West Virginia and Western Maryland. He further describes how the loyalty of Eastern and West Virginia is very different, hence the reason West Virginia sought a separate State Government. Davis concludes by noting that he believes they will get paid next week, and that there is still no news of when they will return home.
