Davis writes to Lucinda acknowledging the fact that he has not written to her since the 21st of June. He details that he left Cincinnati and went to Washington in an attempt to receive a medical examination. He notes that he strongly believes that while in Cincinnati he should have been entitled to a discharge from the Military Service due to his poor health, but instead he was placed under arrest without cause and given extra duty. Davis writes that after receiving no help in Washington, he has made it back to Coshocton, Ohio. He details that he has not decided if he will return to the Regiment, and that if he does he would likely be Court Martialed and Mustered out without pay. Davis concludes by acknowledging that he has partook in a rash act, although he believes he will be home by September 1st.
