Corinth Miss July 18th, 1862 Dear Wife I Sit down once more to write you a line to let you know that I am in tolerable good health trusting this may find you well I have not Rec,d any letter from you this week if I had known I Should not got one before this I would have written Several days ago though I am Anxiously looking for a letter from you Every day when the. Mail comes in there has nothing unusual happened Since I last wrote you the weather continues quite warm we had a verry heavey Rain here night Before last and yesterday the first good rain we have had for over a month but Still it does not Seem to cool the air Scarcely any; there is Rather more Sickness in the Reg,t now than there was two weeks ago Alvin Caulkins has not been verry well for Several days the first time he had Sick Since he has been here though Serious nothing ^ I hope Ailing him now Bill Downie got a letter from his father to day he Said Burnett and his Woman had got home; Ed Crandall got one to day from Sarah She Said that Burnett had not got home yet; Downies letter was dated July 10th and Sarahs July 9th Sarah Being away from home I Supose She did not know he had got home tell Burnett to be Sure and write to me, Ed, Crandall is getting quite Smart again and So is have Ike Odell; I ^ not yet heard anything from Walter yet, I think he mus be in Quincy Illinois in the general Hospital if he is not dead I Believe the Rest of the Badax boys ^ are as well as usual those that are here I Rec,d a letter from Jabez this week it was dated July 1st he Said that he was at Cumberland Gap [Team?] and Expect ed Soon to March on to Knoxville where there was plenty of Rebels he did not Say they had been in any fight yet though they had chased the Rebels away from Wilsons Gap they Run without fighting; he Said he was well he Said he had Just got a letter from you and Mary, I got another letter this week from Brother Isaac at Leavenworth Kansas he had not got his Discharge yet though he was Expecting it Soon; he Said he was well as usual his letter was dated July 4th he Said they was firing Salutes with their large Siege Guns while he was writing though nothing Extra ordinary transpiring; I do not hear anything from Levi Allen lately I understand that the folks had a good time at Newton on the 4th I am Really glad to hear of good Interest the Citizens take in the wellfare of our country and the Easteem with which they hold the Sacred Rights Bequeathed to them By their Revolutionary Fathers There was a letter come here for Burnett Since he went away it was from James Lownie I Opened and Read it; there was nothing of peticular Interest in it or I would have Lent it to him I wrote Back however to Mr Lownie in behalf of Mr Burnett though I Expect Burnett was at home before the letter got there I have no Special News to write this time Our Cavelry is Scouting through the country all the while and are picking up a few loose Sesesh that are stragling Around, and once in a while they have a Squabble with Some of the Sesesh cavelry and loose [in?] few of our men; But Such is war Some folks think that the Rebels will collect in force again and try to Retake Corinth But I dont think they will try Soon Thos.J.Davis Lucinda.
