East Point Ga Sept 21. 1864. Dear Jeff - Enclosed you will find a couple of letters, that arrived a few days ago. The one I took out off the envelope fearing that it would become too heavy. I hope when this reaches Hartford you will be there to receive it. Things are becoming very much mixed here since you left. We thought we had a sure thing of it since they detailed 11 more of the 66th well they have come, & now the report is that this Corps will be consolid ated into the 17th & 15th Corps. You know we have had many similar rumors since we started on this Campaign, & so far they amounted to nothing. This time it looks more serious - in fact we expect to be relieved in a few days. We blame Gen Ransom as the chief instigator of the stink. Well there is no use worrying about it. My Health is not good at present - I have commenced to swell or bloat - since day before yesterday .- yesterday evening my legs were full & round as a drum. Of course walking is very painful. What I will do if I am obliged to go to the Comp. I can’t say. Otherwise we are all well - Case has just eaten a tremendous din ner - the last few days have been quite rainy. Should more letters arrive for you after I am gone, I don’t know whow will attend to them. Hoping you will have all possible suc cess in your new career I will close - remaining ever your friend. William C. Fitz
