Camp Near Lexington Ky. Dec 10th 1863 Dear Sister Em I seat myself on the ground with my saddle for a writing desk we have drawn all of our equipment excep our revolvers and carbines I have a fine horse as there is in Michigan he threw me once when I got on him to go to water and again the first time put spurs on we have company drill 2 hours inthe forenoon and battallion drill the same length of time in the after noon we go out with all of our arms on it would do you good to see our regiment on horseback it is a fine country where we are now there is no men here hardly they are in the rebel army or somewhere else I dont know where but there is niggers enough to make it up i have boarded myself ever since I have been here I dont know how long it will last we received marching orders to night and I suppose we will move in the morning for another place farther south towards Bowling Green I have got furniture enough to keep house with if I with my saddle and blankets and the rest of my traps well I can not write any more now but my respects to all friends if any tell [Livena?] I will write to her next time I write the wether is not so cold here as it is in Mich tell Geo Daggett that I will write to him soon but we are very busy all the time now Direct to Sergt W N Daggett Co [P?] 10th Lexington Kentucky
