FrederickTown January the 11th /64 Mr. Eagle I was some what surprised on receiveing a letter from you but it was verry acceptibel for who is not glad to hear from an old friend and I expect that we are friends I am well and I hope that these fiew lines may find you enjoying the same good helth it is verry verry cold [heer?] now and has ben ever since Newyear and there has been good slaying hear ever since the Sunday after newyear but there is no boys to take us a Slaying and So the Snow does not do us mutch good uncle [James Sargent?] lives in the same place that he did when you was hear Marry Ann Sargent dide and was [bearried?] just one year the Monday after newyear and laura Jane dide just one year and two months before Mary Ann dide Lucinda she went out to Illinois to uncle james [illegible in original] to Teach School and she got a Dollar a day last Summer end this Winter she gets a Dollar and a Shilling a day [illegible in original] Said they was a building a Church for the use of the regiment and you expected you [Could?] have a dance there through to week and preaching Sunday indeade a [real?] good dance would be verry acceptible to me for it would be quite a rairity for dances are verry scarse around hear I want You to excuse this haf a sheat of paper and yello envellop fer i had no other I must close for the present I hope you will look over bad writing and spelling Yourre respectifully from, Mattie Ebersole
