St. Louis. Mo. March 29th 1864 Dear wife I now seat myself to write a fiew lines to you to let you know where we are and how we get along we are all well at present and i hope this may find you all well there and enjoying yourselves we arrived here last night about twelve oclock and stayed in town until morning then we went to camp the regiment are in tents we did not leave detroit until Wednesday evening but i could not get lem and Abe away until stokes folks left so i had to wait for them i sent some things back by mrs stokes and i want you to write and tell me what she gives to you so i will know if she lets you have what i sent for you .the regiment came here last Sunday but we are not in benton barracks. i think we will stay here some time James Jeffreys is well and Enos batchelor also. i recieved my discharge to day which i will enclose in another envelope and send it back, there is three regiments camped here side by side and our regiment got into a fight with one of them and our regiment killed three of the third regulars and hurt another so he is not expected to live, we have a nice camp here but it rains a little which makes it very bad, but it is a great deal warmer here than it is up there. the company is out drilling now we have about one hundred men in the company now. i will close for this time for i have a very poor place to write give my respects to all the folks write as soon as you get this from your affectionate Husband.
