Strawberry Plains Tenn April 11th 1864 Friend Will as it has been some time since I have written to you I will improve this opportunity I am well and enjoy a soldiers life very well I have just heard of your being a brother in law of mine. well I wish you much joy in your new life I just received a letter from Em. she is well I beleive I was very glad to hear from her for it had been some time since I heard from Em I have seen no rebs yet except two which came upon our company one day when we were on a march I was in command of the rear guard and took them prisoners we are camped at this place and will probably stay here for a few days for the purpose of resting our horses and to get new ones we do not live very well we have only drawn a little more than one fourth rations for six weeks but I think the thing will run a little more regular soon I should liked to have been at home when you were there for I suppose you all enjoyed yourselves as well as men could with the chance you had well I must close for this time give my respects to your brother.
