the Feb, 2, 1863 Camp near Falmouth v.a Dear cousin Emiline I now will try to write a few lines to you to let you know that I am still in the land of the living it has been a great while since I have received a word from you I got a letter from you in August and answered it but have never received any in return I dont know whether it ever reached you or not whether it did or not that makes no difference I thought as I was alone to day I would write a few lines and see if I could get an answer now Em I dont know but I wrote something that made you mad at me but I hope not for I do not mean any hurt in what I say I have been [crossed out] [in] in some pretty hard battles since I heard from you last perhaps you have read about the battle of [crossed out] [Antietam] [crossed out] [I was in] Antietam that is in M. d. I was thare we lost a good many boys out of our regiment but I will let that drop I got a letter from Prudence to day she wrote that all of her folk was well I have written three letters to day and I [crossed out] [got] am getting so tierd I cant half write or any thing els Emiline if you know whare to direct to Reuben write and tell me for I would like to know whare to write to him Emiline my time is pretty near out if you dont answer this and let me know how you are all getting along I shant write again I shall come and see a little more than three my months more and ^ I time will be out and then I will bid soldiering adieu I think then I have done my part towards pooting down this rebellion I have done all that has been asked of me and that is all any soldier can do thare is some talk of calling the two years men back to the state I wish it was so but do not know whether thare is any Truth in it or not I just [crossed out] [have] wrote to my Brother Charly I have got to write one more letter after this tell Willard that I send my love to him and all of the folk Tell him to write me a letter and I will write him an answer this is all of the news so Good Bye write soon Direct as before to George Daggett Washington DC Co F. 33 regt N.Y.
