San Antonio Texas Oct 15th 1865 Dear Wife I now seat myself to write a fiew lines to you in answer to your letter of the 25th of last month which i recieved this morning. it found me well. and i hope when this reaches you it will find you enjoying good health. the mail came last night but i did not get any letters until this morning. i am not with the company. i am at General Gibbs Head quarters Orderly for Capt Sheppard he is the Generals aid-de-camp. he furnishes me a nice horse to ride. and i do not have but very little duty to do here. the most that i have to do is to see to his things and when he goes out i have to go out with him. i do not have any guard duty to do now. nor any roll calls to attend. which gives me a chance to have a little rest. when i am not on any other kind of duty which is not all the time, like it is in the company. I should like to have came home the night that you was at the apple cutt over to fathers. i think i could have had some fun as well as the rest of the young folks. at least i should have tried. and i might have got a chance to went home with some of the (gals) I expect when you get to Husking corn that you will make every thing fly. but you must do your work good if you dont do near so much of it do not do as some girls do husk one ear and leave two. Every thing is very still around here to day and i have not had anything to do yet and i guess there will not be much for me to do unless the capt goes to the city. The General is almost as large a man as the old man Levy but he will get on a horse as quick as i can. and he is a good rider to he does not make a practise of riding very fast when he is not in a hurry. When you write again you must speak your mind if you have anything that you want to tell to me. just speak for i had rather you would speak your mind than to keep anything back from me and if there is anything wrong going on there just let me know and i will see if i can help you in any way. but i think that i will get home before many months more rolls around. I recieved a letter from [Lois?] the same time that i did yours. Steve Gillson got one from his mother she thinks that Semour Burrows is going to marry one of the Castor girls and frank Castor is going to marry jenette Burrows steve says that will just be a change. the weather is very hot in the day time but it is quite cool at night. there has not been a hard rain storm since we have been in texas and that is about three months. now i must close for this time write as soon as you get this and as often as you can give my respects to all. no more at present but remain your faithful husband Wm Eaegle E.A.
