San Antonio Texas November 4th 1865 Dear Wife I will now seat myself to write a fiew lines to you to let you know how i am getting along. i am well at present.. and i hope when this reaches you it will find you enjoying the same good health. we have not had any mail for some time so i thought i would write to you to day as i have nothing to busy myself about. i am at the Generals yet and i expect to stay here as long as our regiment stays in this place. i have not been down to the regiment for four or five days. but i hear this morning that Abe has gone to be mustered out of the service and he will probable be home in three or four weeks unless he waits till we all get ready to come and when he does come i will send some things home that i have been carrying for a long time. The reason that he is a going to get out he has been a prisoner. all men that have ever been in the rebel prisons are to be discharged now. but i have never been a prisoner so i will have to wait a while yet. but i think that we will all get out sometime this winter for to be there is going to be two Ill regiments ^ mustered out soon here and i think it will be our turn next for there will only be two regiments of cavalry left here after them other two gets out and i think as soon as they get off a while that we will get orders to leave for home. our colonel has got to be a brig General and i am glad of it for now he is out of the regiment and we will not be bothered with him any more. i was in the city with the Gen last night and we was only about fifteen minutes coming from the city to camp and it is four miles and a half but i dont care how fast they ride as long as they furnish me a horse to ride for i like to ride fast and the faster the better it suits me. No i must close for this time as there is no news to write. you must excuse me for writing on such dirty paper but i could not help it this time. write as soon as you get this excuse all mistakes and poor writing no more at present but remain your loving husband Wm Eaegle E.A.E.
