Camp Benton Feb the 15th 1862 Miss Emmie I received your letter of the 2nd and was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was all well we are all well at present and I hope when you receive this it will finde youe enjoying the same blessing this ma be the last letter you will receive from me from Camp Benton for we are under marching orders I sepose we will go to Kentuckey in a week or two there is some hard fighting to day at Fort Donalson our men surrounded the fort and Shelling them by land and water the rebels have tried to retreat but they are surrounded and will have to Surrener [Price?] is drove to the Indian Territory Missouri is clear of rebels I think by the last of march peace will be declared the Weather is verry cold hear tell Will I will write to him soon.
