Eagle Aug 16, 1863 Affectionate cousin Em I now will try to write a fiew lines to let you know of my health which is very good at present I received your welcome letter and was very glad to hear from you and hear that you wer all well the folks are all well around here I believe I am at Brother Charleses to day it is a rainy day I wock a bout one half of a mile from here the folks have got most through hazing we have got alittle more to do tell Will I shouldn’t advise him to enlist but I think [crossed out word] if I had [crossed out word] never been to War I should go [crossed out word] before a month but I have been two years and I guess that will do for me I did think I should go back to the army but the folks all seem to think I had better not I would like to go and help clean the rebels out but I guess I will content myself to stay at home for a while if Will goes tell him to write to me when he gets down to Dixie and [crossed out] [tell] tell me how to direct and I will write to him tell uncle Nelson that F Father is well also all of the family that lives in this part of the world Em I wish you was down here to day I think we would have a good time if you will send me your likeness I will send you mine Just as soon as I can get it taken I have got it now but is isent a good one when you write to me Direct to Eagle in not to not [crossed out word] Eagle Village [crossed out word] then I shall get them quicker the boys bother me so I cant half write Emma I should like to see you all very much I think we would have a good time and visit I went to Sandusky the [4?] to a great celabration we had a good time I got home just before daylight Sunday morning [crossed out word] now before and write soon and send your likeness [crossed out letter] and I will send mine as soon as I can give my respects to all of the cousin, and to uncle and Aunt I guess I have written all I can think of I guess you cant read this but the boys bother so I cant hear myself think not more at present write soon tell me all about how the things prosper up thare the next time you write I must close Good bye Em Yours with respect B.W.
