Nashville, Tennessee. Jan 15th 1863 Dear Father. As I was writing to Mother this morning I thought I would put in a word for her to send to you. My health is good. much better than could be expected. with the fare we have. I am big and stout I now weigh 154 pounds. being some 10 pounds more than when I enlisted. the Climate is good and agrees with me first rate. Mother says you are getting along first rate I am very glad to hear it and I hope when I return to see you quite well. We are in Nashville yet whare we have been several months. and the prospect looks good for our staying here a long time yet and strange as it may seem we have not been in a battle yet. we are called the “Lucky Regiment” It is the opinion of most here that the war will not last much longer. for the present I will close keep up good courage dear father and all will come our right yet write to me if you can write Good Bye. Edwin Holmes. A.H Holmes.
