Well here I am pen in hand for the purpose of answering your letter of the 2nd At present I am in good health that is for now I am imp improving fast we have a good place here for taking exercise and I improve the chances and am getting quite strong and am getting fat too! it agrees with me I ride on horseback some every day I have a nice horse to ride whenever I want to take a ride I just tell our waiter to bring him up and that is all the trouble it is to me. Please write me if mrs White is in the house yet and what [illegible in original] the [illegible in original] for any long amount per year. let me know what you can in regard to what lose property was left thare of Fathers. if any of the Tools were preserved and if any of the Creditors ever say anything about the settlement. also if you would sent post of your house. the reason I am so particular in regard to this matter I think I can come home if not on duty. I can get a leave of absence under the circumstance I shall try at my rate about the last of September and I want to know how things stand and put things to rights. I know mother it is lonesome thare but take courage this War cannot always last the time will come when we will all be once more united in our happy family. my idea is that this war will last about one year yet and then we will be free. they are assuring negroes and so are we and although I could not think it right at first but now have come to the conclusion that it is the best thing we can do.
