I am in receipt of yours of the 26th [Illegible in original] and write hast [pen?] a [illegible in original] In yours. you mutered the word “jealousy” and although you called no names I infer you meant Mr P---o folks. from the fact that they besides yourselves are the only correspondents I have in Fentonville so taking it for granted you meant then I take it up and will say that the accusition was wholly uncalled for. for truer friends I have not [nor?] would you if you would only allow them to become so in writing to me they always speak of you and in a kindly way. that you should just be proud of you say had it not been for some things that took place soon after I left things would have been different here again I am at a loss to comprehend your meaning why do you speak on riddles? If any thing has been done that concerns me I should have known it before this late hour but trusting it to be nothing of import only the imaginations of your over sensitive mind I lay them all aside. and think perhaps in time you will see things in the lime light I speak to you thus plain Dear Mother not to wound your feelings but feel it my duty to tell you the t truth of the matter and protect my friends. You say you need many things to make you you comfortable for winter I presume so but do not have any [illegible in original] about that all will be straightened out in time please inform me in your next if you can wait untill another pay day. and if not I will borrow the amount or procure it in some way. in my present position it takes a good deal to supply my wants here. I being here at Head Quarters have to associate with officers a good deal therefore it is necessary to put on some “style” and consequently I find my money spent nearly as soon as Earned but I have an idea that I shall not always remain in my present [illegible in original] position I am in good health at present. the Regt. went towards Chattanooga the other day and although I much wanted to be with them it was my duty to stay As to coming home this fall I have given that up Write soon and remember if you hear any more news about any correspondents that I shall stop writing entirely.
