Harper Hospital Detroit Michigan Feby 15th Dearest Mother I fear you may think I have forgotten you as I have not written in so long but not so Duty keeps me from letter writing for I think it my Duty to look well for the Sick & Wounded Soldiers in my charge but as time is precious I will ask my questions for I may not get time to write many words but I wish to ask of you what is good to take to guard against the Erysipelas, Whare one is taking care of a case of it. I have lost one of my Boys, and have another that is far past help I fear. I do not like the treatment the Drs. give it here. I do believe if it wer handled in the right form at the commencement it can be cured. this ist he third one in my Ward. the first I lost, and the Second, I cured with Cranburry Poltice. But the Dr would not let me use them on this man, and he is going to Die. but I have done all in my Power for him. But, Oh, Mother, you don’t know how it makes me feel to hear him Curse and Sware when he is so sick. Oh I hope I never shall be guilty of using Such Language never in my life. Oh he is so much Different from the Other Boy that Died. he was a Cathalic and a good Boy to, and I hope he is in Heaven. he seemed to be perfectly willing to Die. But Oh such a lingo as an old fellow had over after he was dead and when he was dieing. it was an Irish Catholic. Mother did you know that Augustus was out here with me now he came last Sunday he is transfured here. is not very well at present he took cold coming here. his wound is not much better than it was when at Home.
