Dearly Loved Emma
		           Well you will
perceive I have arrived safely
in Aurora and I can assure
you dear Emma that I am
lonely indeed for your dear
face is not near to cheer me
     Tis true I have your picture.
but when I look upon it as
I do many many times Each
day no kind smile responds
to mine. No warm Kiss in
return for those which I lavish
upon it. Yet dear One – It is
a great comfort to me for
it resembles you – and
when I gaze upon it I can
see your noble qualities strongly
portrayed.
	      It were useless for me
to attempt to tell you dear
Emma _ How much you are
loved by me. It is not the light

fancy _ But true deep and

we may be separated for a
long time _ rest assured

I am sure.
	       Now for the news
after parting with you at
the Gate, I made a [jacknife?]
to my Boarding House _ found
the team waiting and started
without delay for New Buffalo _
But found to our surprise that
the train did not pass there
until four oclock _ Of course
I was sorry we did not Know
it before leaving Chickaming for
I should have had another hour
with you.
	     We arrived in Chicago
that morning toolate for the
Train for Aurora and were
compelled to remain in C. all

     day _   But finally arrived
    Home safe at 11 oclock that
night. found my friends at
the Depot. waiting for me _
		                   We have
not any of us Enlisted as yet _ but
Expect to Stand for New York to-
-morrow for that purpose.
			       Since
the above was written we
have receive a Despatch from
Capt Carter U.S.N. which
stated that the receiving Ship
Michigan would arrive in
Chicago tomorrow and we have
no doubt our arrangements will
very soon be concluded We
shall see - what we shall see.
	I have had some fine offers
in R.R. Offices since my return
But do not accept.

I presume we shall be here a
few days _ and if you answer
promptly I may receive it
before I leave

   I have had my picture
taken for you shall send
when I mail this both
should be received at the
same time.
