What a sad fate was poor Frank's 
to escape the dangers of war. to
meet a violent death when so
near to the meeting of friends
from whom he had been so long

separated. I had thought that he
died some two years ago. It seems to
me that I had heard of his death from
some one about the time that I enlisted.
But I will close. I trust that
I shall not have to wait so long
before I next hear from you as
I did the last time.. I am in
usual health and quite lively as
you would be convinced were you
to see me “scratch” an hour or two
