No 8th Grand Rapids Nov 14, 1862 Dear Father, I this evening express you a box containing what clothes we do not want and also a receipt of the same from the Express Company. Some of the things are mine and of course are marked excepting the over coat which you will know. Newton Sparks has some things which are not marked but which will be known by those who know him Wm. Grahams things are all done up together. I believe Harvey Reynolds has an overcoat marked which is to be sent to Otis Webster. when convenient. The remainder belong to Allen Park. Being rather short of funds we do not pay ex press charges which you will oblige us by paying. Col. Smith has been here paying the soldiers the 25 dollars bounty and paid our company. But of course I did not get any thing. There is no telling when we shall get the pay due us for our time but there is quite strong talk of our leaving soon and we will probably get it before leaving. Col. Mann is here and I like his looks first rate. He brought with him a germ an brass band of twelve who are to go with the regt. We are all well as usual and feel well, although our fare this week has been rather slim. This being simply a business letter you must excuse its brevity and I will write again and at more length soon In haste your affectionate son Edwin R Havens.
