Detroit Ft. Wayne Camp of Instruction Mich June 27th, 1861 Dear Brother & Sisters I have A few moments leisure to write I am well as usual hope you will not be taken by surprise when I tell you that I have entered the Camp of Instruc tion I am A member of the Beardesly guards Company C. Captin Bacon drilling for an officer ted my office not yet desegna^ I have been at Uncle [Fullers?] Aunt L [?] is not very well you will write me when you get this tell me all the news I shall likely see you before we leave the [illegible in original] in beating for drill I have just come in from drill I commenced my letter this morning it is now dinner time I have A pass to go to the city this after noon to get my bagage we have fine times have all excitement give my love to all tell them that when they see me again it will be in A suit of Uncle Sams cloth I am acquainted with the company before I joined them write as soon as you get this letter Fort Wayne Detroit Mich care of Captain Bacon 6th regiment don’t forget to direct them to me in care of the Captain excuse me for the present I will give you more news next time good by from your Afectionate brother G B Surdam
