Ferdon to Mary Ferdon Nashville Tennisee Wednesday Dec /'62 Dear sister I take this oppertunity to inform you that I am well excepting this lame back and hip but I think that it will get better by the time that spring and opens but it may never get well I wish that I could be at home be at home until I got cured up but it may be that I shall if the doctors see that I am not fit for duty and am not like ly to be they will discharge me and send me home but dont look for me until you see me for if I get strong enough they will set me to nursing and if I can stand it I shall be kept at it but I dont think that my back will ever get sound again but I hope that it will [illegible in original] Mary I want you to get the folks there to send me a box of things to eat fo my apetite is not good you can send a box by railroad now you can sent it by express make the box nearly square and send some preserves and honey and pickels some onions cook some sausage and send them and as much butter as you can tell Mother to send me a towel and some apple pies if the weather is cold enough to freeze them and send such oth er as you think of you had better not send any dried fruit for I have no way to cook them make a base of thin lum ber and dont have it when full weigh over one hundred pounds and send it by express to me to Nashville Tennisee you had better pay the express charges there a for I may not be here when it comes and if the the charges is paid it will be sent to me and tell me howe much it is and I will send the money back to you remember dont send it to the regament nor to the Company but to me Nashville Tennisee send it as soon as you get this for I may get better and go to the regiment and also I need it write as soon or before you send it that I may know that it is a coming and go and get it Direct your letters to hospi tle House third Ward Andrew Ferdon
