Bonnet Carrie La April 6th 1864 Sister Kate I don't know what excuse to make for not writing to you before I have been in this camp so long that Ive got so lazy I cant do anything. I have been going to write every day since I got your Letter before the last. the weather is so warm here that a person cant do anything. you write that it is sickley where Sol is their is some sickness here among the western Regments but our Regt has been very healthy citty Regments are far healthier here than those from the country. I got a letter from Mag to day. dated the same as yours March 20th they both came to gether I have been expecting a letter from Deb every mail but it don't come I wrote to her before I wrote to you and have had no answer yet she might not have goten my Letter so while I have my hand I will write to her I have answerd Mags this forenoon I will try and write oftener here after our Regiment will go home I think in about five or six month to reinlist and if I cant get a furlough before I will get home then if nothing happens. we stay here at Bonnet Carre yet and I guess we will stay here all summer we have sis forty or fifty miles of the Misippi River to Guard and I have to do now is to visit the Guard about once a fortnight I have a horse to ride I have got a drawing of the inside of my tent that I will send you it is not a very good one but you can see about how it looks chairs are rather scarce so I have to use a bench. I have soon got to go and drill the company so I must close write soon and let me know how Rhodes folks are and Vantyles Hermans if you ever hear from John Lake. and how all the folks are remember me to all of the neighbors. and don't forget Mr Boice I have not seen his son since I left New Ibera I believe he is with the cavalry give my Love to the children and write often So nomore from your Brother Jim to Kate
