Camp Near Morg anza La May 27 1864 Dear Sister I received your Letter a few days ago and was glad to hear that you and your family was well I had a letter from Deb the same mail stating that her and family was as well as usual and a letter from Mag received last night stating that she was well and was going up to see you in a few days I would have writen to you before but since we left Bonnet Carre we have had no chance to write for we were cut off from all communication while at alexandra on the Red River and had to fight our way to this place on the Miss River on the 16th of May we Marched ten miles in line of battle across a Large Prairie under a fire of artillery all the way their was no watter to be had only what the men had in their canteens when they started we were the advance after the cavelry and Lost one man killed and 2 wounded and three or four cases sun stroke. it was very hot the hottest day I have seen in Louisianna. We are now in camp on the Banks sis of the Missippa and may Stay here some time. the men are getting Boughs to shelter them from the Sun. it is the hot weather here that troubles the soldiers instead of the cold the coldest weather here the men go without overcoats Kate write and let me know how the crops are getting along and if there is any one to Harvest them.
