Winchester Va Sept 3 1865 Dear Sister You must excuse me for not writing sooner but I have been so buisey since Ive been here that I could not get time. buiseness is very good here now but I cant tell how long it will last they have just established civil law here now and the Rebs are begining to hold up their heads again and talk pretty loud and they may drive me away from here when the troops leave here some of them are making their bragd that no man from the north shall live after the Soldiers leave but the Soldiers have not gone yet and I dont think they will all leave before next spring. I have had a [Fellon?] on my right hand an it is just getting well so I can use it some. I will try and get out to michigan this winter if I can get away write to me and let me know how you are getting along and how Mamma is and the Children remember me to all the folk and give my love to Mamma and the children From Your Brother Jim to Cate P.
