the Chatnooga Feb 21, 1863 [should be 1864 – Solomon was not in service until Jan 1864] Dear Sister I received your letter last night of the ninth and was glad to hear that you was all well it found me enjoying good health and I have been able to eat my rations ever since i have been here i was one day that i did not work but if it had been nessery i could then but I thought it best to lay still it has been a little cold here for a few days now but the weather the most of the time has been warm enoug for to have our coats of here the weather here now is a bout as it is thair the last of april or the first of may so you see that we have spring a little earlyer than in michigan you rote that you had a letter from Jim i wish you would send me his Directions and I will rite to him once more now i shall rite a letter to mother in a day or too now you did not rite weather you got my likeness or no that i sent from the rapids but i supose you have got it ere this tell matt that I will rite to him in a few days now I herd that Er harmon was about to get his discharge but i dont now yet ad stanton was telling me a bout it that he was a bout getting one [ad?] is trying for one he is not able to do any thing but is not confined to the hospitil I will send Richard Fisk and John MComber is in the company with me i saw them this morning richard wants his folks to rite to him he has rote to or three letters and not got any answer yet their are a good many in this compa ny that i know now I cant think of any thing more only that we cant see a grate [yay?] on acount of the mountains Rite often and give my respects to all so no more at present Direct as before From your Brother Sol to Cate rite soon as you get this
