(1864 Chattnooga May the 4 Dear Sister I now take my pen in hand to rite you a few lines to let you know that I am enyoying good health and fat and ruged and roughf we are having prety easy times now all fighting regms was orderd to the front this morning and are mooving in evry direction this mourning they all seem to feel in good sperits now you may hear before this reachv es you of a heavy battle on our front near ringold or tunnelgap we have got a strong army and we must whip them out of all the rebs i have seen yet we orto whip them three to one but we do not quite if our army routs them here and to richmond wich we have Strong faith that we will in side of too or three weeks the war will be ended before great while i hope so for i want to be back home once more but not until this war is over then i can live in peace once more you must rite often i expect to get my pay in a few days now and then i will send part or the whole to you by express and i will send a letter before i send it so you will know when to look for it and not be troub led as before and you can let it or let matt have part to do my havesting with I cant think of any thing more tell the girls that i have not got any more shells yet for their rings but i will in a few days and they must send me their likenesses with Juel when he comes back and when i get my pay i will get my [pothagraph? fothagraph?] and send to them no more so good by From Sol Hardenbergh
