1864 Chattnooga May 20th Dear Sister it has been a good while since i rote to you perhaps you think that i am sick but i am well at present and hope that these few lines will find you the same you must excuse me for not riting before for i have been waiting for my pay but did not it my descriptive list has not come here yet so i could not get my pay but i will get more nex time i had to borrow a little money to last until pay day a gain you must rite as often as you can i have not got a letter in some days i guess that it is too weeks or more i think that the war will be over in the inside of six months more the rebs are coming in here evry day as fast as we can transport them out we are sending them north now as fast we can thair is a rumor in camp that their will be a detail of our ridgement to gard prisnors north but iguess that is camp rumor well cate you must rite it is so warm here i cant rite any more you must rite soon so good bye this is from your Brother Sol to Cate Direct as before you send the girls likenesses here is a ring for one of the girls
