May 20th Georgia /,64 Dear Pa and Ma it has been over a week since I wrote to you the last time I am well and hope you are the same. we have had a big fight with the rebs and I was in it we lost 57 killed and wounded and eleven missing we are whipping the rebbels every where now. and the rebelion must go down this summer. the rebbels have evacuated Dalton and we are after them verry close. we are skirmishing with their rear guard every day they are making for Atlanta as fast as they posibly can we are taking stragglers every day. they are as good as whipped but they hate to own it yet but they will have to come to their [illegible] before fall. Warren is well. the mail does not go out regular here so you must not be worried if you do not hear from me verry regular. I have not had a letter from you in over three weeks and that is a long time for me to go without hearing from Home. when did you hear from Dick last when you write tell me where he is and in what army we ar having Hard times this summer. but [illegible] will repay them when it come and that will be before long.
