[Penciled in on top of Scan 1] [7-6-74] Georgia July 5th 1864 Dear Pa and Ma I am now on the skirmish line and am well and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same Blessing the rebs fell back the 3d of this month and we are in Close [illegible] of the whelps. Marrietta is ours and we hold all of their wounded and back the rebs come in by flocks. they are Deserting verry fast t Sherman is verry confiden^ of success. I hope I can spend the next fourth at Home it would seem verry good indeed. are the times any better than they were in the spring our pay is raised to Sixteen | $. per month we have drew no pay in over four months and when we do I will send you some of it they are blowing strike tents and we shall in all probability have to leave here before long I am now in camp we were just relieved from picket write soon and tell me all the news. Warren is well. has aunt Lucinda Come to Mich yet. do you have much [practice?] this summer make the men that owe you [mony?] [illegible] and pay you. write soon give my respects to all the folks around our House no more at pres ent. good Bie I remain now as ever your ever true and loving son I G.
