It is Sabbath morning where you are I suppose but here it does not seem much like it here only the stores are closed and once in a while a bell rings I am duty today on patrole the government [illegible] are at work there is not much sunday in the army nevertheless it seems a little more quiet than other days. I rec’d your letter this morning (and that paper) all right but the pay master has gone to Louisville your Father will (if he has not allready) get those drafts for the two last payments then he can do as I told you before pay Mr Bengiman ll Converse $20 for Sam Rotherwe^ and Mrs. Johnson $7 for pay and pay Clark for the boots and do what he has a mind with the rest I t have enough for the presen^ to use besides having some lent to the boys. I suppose you will think there is some thing the matter of me if I do not tell you better I never felt better physically in my life and that is one of the main things for a soldier to keep well. I see Charlie every day almost he is well or at least he appears so he was out on inspection last night. I have not seen Horace in several days but I reckon he is well or I should have heard something about it. have you seen that picture Clark got. I had it taken just as he told me to. I rec’d Georges letter day before yesterday there must have been some mistake about that corn Jerrie never sent any corn did your folks plant that sugar cane seed last spring that I sent to them last fall well I have been on patrole for two hours now I will try and full out this sheet I suppose you have ripe melons to eat by this time we have some by buying them I have seen melons that were sold not ripe ^for $2 here that is a big price biger than I can afford to pay. I bought one the morning .30 cts about one foot long and 6 inches in diameter. peaches have been sold for $4 per bushel. They have some the niceest water melons here that I ever saw in my life I will get some seeds and send to your folks.
