Oct 8 /62 Saturday Night Sister Emma, We have had quite a time opening boxes two boxes came directed to Charlie I opened both of them Jay and I Jay did not get much stuff he got some apples dried some plug tobacco and oil cloth some gloves and a pair of boots the boots he sold within an of the time he got them he did not need them any way he tore and swore about most all that he got he said that if they could not send him any thing better than what they sent this time they might keep it at home not so with me I am glad to have any thing from home about that haverlock and blanket they are tip top while I think of it I wish you would tell E.J. that she need not send me any stamps at present for s I got some A paper rapper^ that are stamped. those elasticks (you know I gerner -aly make mistakes when there is much noise as there is here) go tiptop I do not know what I can do for my friends to pay them for so many things but all ks that I can give is my than^ them but we got^ it all right I guess Jerry is out on picket but the boys want to go to bed so good night write soon James
