No 3 Camp Wells Oct 12 1862 Sister Emma Good evening how do you do this evening[crossed out] [ing] I am well and so are the rest of the Medina except Alvin Wilber he is rather unwell. Jerry is on guard to night. I have lent him my gloves to wear we have a fire in our tent so it is quite com fortable. To day we had quite a time this forenoon we had company inspection this afternoon we had general review by Colonel [illegible] the and a lot of others big toads. we had to march about 6 miles a pleasant [Written upside down on top of Page] Direct letter as usual to follow the Reg. little walk for Sunday afternoon. I will give you the style in which the ladies of old Kentuck on ride^ horse back the way that they do it is one sits on the back and the other sits back on the hips. on horse another^ there was a man nd and woman take it all rou^ there are some nice gals round about here. but they dont bother me any you know. The other day I had my face shaved except my upper lip any thing for a lie change you know. tell Char^ that Lieut Reed is not coming home but if he has a chance to send me a good watch to do it I do not want one that will want fixing evry day [Written upside down on top of Page] I believe this is the third letter that I have written to you e I would rather not hav^ any but a good hunter cased watch I would like to have and would willingly pay a good price for it. Norm Bailey has come yet if he comes he can send it by him if he thinks that is safe or any way that is safe ld I find that a watch wou^ be considerable company to me. When you get lone some you must go over and pat brin for me and try and tame berry. you Clark may break them this winter if you have time. That sorgum seed is for George and Ral. and some for your pap tell George want that he should take good care of it so that I can have some when I come home I get some confiscated apples quite often. Charlie has been writing to day so you may read somethings ove twice tell put to eat two or three good big apples for me if he will. I suppose you eat some for me most every day dont you. that picture I carry in my shirt pocket all the time and look at it once in a while I reckon.
