Jan 20th /63 Sister Emma Good morning How do you do this morning I feel pretty well with k jokeing the boys got bac^ from Louisville last night they had quite a time they were down there when I wrote to E.J. Cousin Isaac started for home this morning they will have rather a wet time I guess for it rains Mr Buck was detained in Cin. when he came he said the snow was 2 feet deep it broke in some of the house roofs it came so fast he said it seemed to be a solid sheet of snow he said he never saw it snow before (I do not know as you will know who I mean by Mr Buck, he lives in [illegible] The boys said that the rt snow beyond Frankfo^ was about knee deep it has not been more than 8 inches here and there will not be any by night if it keeps on raining. I have not seen as nice a sleigh as Clarks since I have been in K.Y. so you may judge for your self about the amount of sleighing they have carriages I never saw nicer in my life. I recie ved your letter also 3 others one from Clark and E.J. and one from Warren. While I think of it I will tell you what to do with the I certificate that ^ will send you in this letter you may keep it until I come home or if it shou ld be my lot never to come back you can let Father have it and he can draw my bounty it will serve as a witness to my being in the U.S. service. If you want me to keep up good courage you must not let me be a great I while without a letter from you. if you do write before you get an answer[crossed out] [to the one yo] it will not hurt you a bit about that handkerchief all that I can do to pay you for it is to thank you and promise what paid for the pie with [illegible] for value recd if we ever meet again which time will show as you told me once. The box you may do as you think best about that it [crossed out] [will] would be a very welcome gift I tell you as far as moveing is concerned the Col said awhile ago that we should not move until setteled weather but I do not know I wrote to E.J. to tell your pap to send me $5 dolls being rather unwell I have spent more than I should if I had been well I am going to live t if I do not lay up a cen^ aint that your style. I have got this sheet pretty well scribbled over so I will get another about the papers I pro -bably have not got half of them your letters I have got every one and have answered every one you probably have got my [illegible] 12 before this time k I sent it the 12th I thin^ that apple that you ate for me tasted first rate apples we have to pay .75 for 2 or 3 and some 3 for a dime that is rather dear apple eating but must have one once in awhile. Ask Leuce for me which she likes best tending her little squa ling brat or climbing trees with Jerry and I I suppose she is not troubled with a cough any more. That lip that you [illegible] he of has been shaved several times since I told you that I had left it Jerry says that he shal not shave his upper lip while he stays in the army he h will have a heavy growt^ I tell you. According to all accounts Henry Lawrence has fixed him self nicely some of the boys knew her. tell Geo that I will answer his letter some time if ever I do. the box as I said before you may do as with it you think best. ^ write soon and oblige.
