[Written upside down on top of Page] Direct the same as before to Lexington Danville K.Y. No 16 March 3rd /63 It has been some time since I have writen to or heard from you are you well and the rest of the folks I am well. You have probably heard about our leaving Lexington I have not had a letter since I have been here I left Jerry there he had not got over the mumps Charlie was left also We have got the most pleasant camp that we have had about a mile from [crossed out] [do] Danville I suppose you would like to know some thing about our march here. The first day we marched 20 miles in the afternoon it snowed considerable we stopped at night in a field on a [illegible] farm the Col told us to stack our guns and pitch into the rails we pitched our tents and scraped the snow out got some hay and straw and built a good fire in our stove so we made it quite comfort- -able the next morning (which was sunday) we struck tents and marched to Danville 15 or 16 miles pitched our tents and got some more rails and hay and stopped for three days. Thursday afternoon we [crossed out] [went] struck tents and marched down town went into a church and staid until sunday night or afternoon we [crossed out] [wen] came out here where we may stay one day ^ or 4 months we do not know which it will be. That box I presume is at Lexington the boys will take care of it. I should like to get my hand into it. I have sold my watch am to get $23, next pay day sold it to A.J. [illegible] a good t honest fellow I though^ it was a good chance so I let it slip made $3 on it was worth most it much for me to have in the army it dont hury the time any, and as Clark said if I [crossed out] [said] should he snatched it is good bye watch. We have got to traveling about and no knowing where we shal stop. Some of the boys think we shal start back for Lexing -ton before many days but we do not know any more about it than you do, if we are going to stay in K.y. I would like to stay in Lexington for there we get mail every day, here we do not get it so regular there we were close to the rail road and evry thing was handy but I must stop so good night [Written sideways on right side of Page] James
