Read Oak GA Aug. 29 1864 My dear sisters We are on the March & I don't know when I shall have an= other opportunity of writing to you for I expect our communication with the war will be cut off today or tomorrow & we will be further down in Dixie – I am still troubled with a bad cold but am Otherwise well – I have not heard from you in a long time & now shall not be able to get a letter from you in two weeks but hope when we get into a position again that I shall find several letters from you & Helen I will write you when this expedition is conclu= ded & tell you what its results are – I received your letter Helen in which you said “Three times & out” I hope you are not going to be so [illegible] as that in your correspondence with me for you have no idea how difficult it is for me to keep up my share of correspondence – I think a thousand times a day of you & my little Maggie but I am not able to write as often as I am inclined to – you must not wait for my letters but write me often as you can and at least once a week – you speak of your expenses & having paid out over $100 in a week. I hope your expenses are not so much every week – if they are you will soon use up your capital – Tell me if you have what you want to make you comfortable I will cheerfully send you more money than I do if you desire it – I know you are naturally very economical & do not require much money for expenses – if you want money for your comfort let me know it & I will try & send you what you need – you [illegible] the girls have asked me for any thing nor told me you wanted anything & what I have sent has been what I supposed you could use – Give Kittie & Maggie a thousand hugs & ten thousand Sweet Kisses for their Papa – & believe me as ever your affection= ate brother John
