March 30th 1865 Camp near mount olive North Carolina Dear wife and children I improve this oppor tunity after a raid of 2 months to write a few lines to you to inform you that I am alive and in first rate health at present hoping this will find you all well and all right I got a letter from you and jenne a day or 2 ago fated Jan 31sr another from jennette dated feb 17th we are here on the wilmington and petersburg railroad we have gone into camp for to rest as [hell?] and we drew some new Clothes to day since we left savannah jan 28th we had some pretty rough times on one march and some [f?] battles I saw [Josephus?][petese] [unintelligible] and [hod?] June first at sisters from 35 miles from savannah stayed all night with them there they come with our army all the way through and I saw [Seaf?] and [hod?] days ago but [petese?] was missing the last time I saw [Seaf?] we had a fight 2 days before that and the rebs charged [] regiment and they were obliged to run I saw [Seaf?] and [hod?] 2 days after and they were all right
