This is a letter from John Wheeler, a union soldier, to his family and friends in his hometown. Wheeler describes what his family is to do with his pay once it arrives there; however he's already spent some of it on photos of himself and the company record. A passenger train ran off the track near his camp, but no one was killed. His regiment is the only one he knows of that hasn't had one casualty. He also reports on the latest skirmishes the army has made.
