U S General Hospital Saterlee West Philadelphia Penna Saturday May 28th /64 Friends at Home After a rather fatigueing journey of 24 hours, we are installed in one of the Hospitable Hospitals of Phil - we started from Washington yesterday about 12 O'clock " [M?]" on the cars, we were not very comfortably situated being placed in freight cars temporally provided with seats and having holes cut through various parts of the side to admit the air. we could not justly complain for the Government has been taxed to its utmost to transport the sick and wounded northward from Wash. in order to make room for the more serious cases which were daily arriving from Fredericksburg, there were 32 cars in our train containing from 40 to 45 each, we reached this city. last night shortly after midnight and were cared for at the citizens Volunteer Hospital and to day were sent to the General Hospitals in various parts of the city and suburbs, it was after noon when we arrived at our destination. I am almost tired out and am quite nervous as you will see by the looks of this writing. if you get this by the 1st or 2nd please answer it immediately and send me $5'00 if you can conveniently I believe I shall try and get a furlough furlough if I can. they are giving quite a good many but I do not know whether I can get one or not Please excuse me this time and I will try and do better next time Yours Truly J H Wheeler Co [?] 44th N.Y.S.V.
