Stewart Kedzie writes to his brother Robert to request he medically evaluate the epileptic man with whom Stewart and his wife Nettie are boarding. Nettie writes to Robert and Eliza to let them know that they would like to pay them an extended visit when everyone in the family is healthy. They close with a brief report on what became known as the Battle of Wilson's Creek, in which Union Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon was killed.
