Edward W. Barber writes to his friend, Robert C. Kedzie, about not entering the military and working in the county clerk's office instead. Barber criticizes Union General George "Little Mac" McClellan and praises Union Major General John C. Fremont. Note: Barber incorrectly dates the letter as 1861, but it is from 1862.
