Grandison writes to his children, but he seems to primarily address Harriet, who he is persuading to come live with him and her mother if Robert ends up joining the military. Grandison notes that he sewed and stitched a pair of pants for himself and that Nancy, his wife, is putting the finishing touches on them. He mentions a number of deaths of local people, some of whom died of disease while serving in the military.
