Blissfield Mich July 11th 1861 Dear Bro Yours of 6th Received yesterday. It is all in your eye about living on the line of a R.R. to get the early news. Thinking that will be satisfactory. In times like this, if we cant see ahead, and know what is to take place tomorrow or next week, all goes [rong?], we are dissatisfied and curse Gen Scott_ The Telegraph or some one else. I have wished I lived 100 miles from any place so that I could hear nothing, for after taking the N.Y. Dailies, which we recd at 10 AM the next day after they were published, and the regular Reports 2 hours after publish, I find not I was no better [posted?], and ^ half as well satisfied, as the farmers who read their weekly paper. We had an old fashion 4th of July celebration at “Kedzies Grove” I should think there was 3 or 400 men Women & children there. Good [Dinner?] Brass Band, and our Military Company in Uniform, with their 6 Pounder, which is named Death to Traitors. Several Patriotic speeches, and some singing by the Glee Club. Since the session of Congress met, the war seems to progress with more vengeance, and they get up awfull stories of Big Battles I send account of one in Mo, It was said last eve Gen Patterson in Va was all cut up. The story will soon be told now. Mother has got quite well, is now at my house. Geo is in a bad state of health, was very sick for a week, and for a day or so his case was doubtfull – enlargement of the Liver. the rest are all well. I have commenced my new house _ the Wall built, & sills on. the best wall in this town. next week the carpenters will be at work. Times getting harder & harder Wool 20 @ 28. Corn 20 – wheat 60@70 Cherries very abundant 3 @ 5.- &c. &c. Love to the family_ and also the Gov and his Lady. Respectfully Jas T Kedzie
